What is the programme about?

National Vocational Qualifications are work related qualifications based on your ability to do your job in a given occupationally area. To achieve the qualification a candidate has to demonstrate their skills in practice and their knowledge and understanding what they are doing in order to become competent. The candidate will be assessed by a competent and qualified NVQ assessor against a set of national standards, accredited by an Awarding Body.

Level 2

A level 2 qualification is suitable for staff working in day, residential or supported living services who provide care and support to individuals.

What are the entry requirements?

No formal qualifications are necessary, but candidates must be working in support/care services. For access to Train to Gain funding students need to complete an initial assessment test in literacy.

How is it taught?

Learners attend one classroom based day, which will guide them through the process and documentation of the award. In addition a workbook is provided for students to collect evidence and information on their knowledge and understanding of their work.

How is an NVQ assessed?

You will have to complete six units to gain your award. An assessor will be allocated to each candidate who will observe you in the workplace to determine your competence in practice. This will be supported by questioning or discussion by the assessor and candidate accounts. A witness e.g. another colleague or manager can also observe your practice and record this.

Level 3

A level 3 qualification is suitable for staff working in day, residential or supported living services who provide care and support to individuals but who also work in a supervisory role.

What are the entry requirements?
