ASET Safe Handling of Medicines
ASET Certificate. Following a day's taught programme, students undergo an assignment, workbook and observations of competence. A high quality programme more than meeting the demands expected in social care and health. Cost includes registration, assessment, moderation and certification.
Working with Medicines
ASET Award. Advance Care Training's answer to domiciliary workers and their unique situation. This one day programme includes activities and a final assessment to evaluate learning. Cost includes registration, assessment and certification.
Introduction to Working with Medicines
A one day programme giving learners the knowledge needed to ensure safety when working with medication.
Learning Outcomes
- Identify the different types and categories of medicines
- Identify the benefits and risks associated with medicines
- Describe the roles & responsibilities of all personnel
- Describe the current procedures for receiving, storing and disposing of medicines correctly and safely
- Demonstrate and describe the preparation and correct procedures for safe administration
- Demonstrate and describe the correct reporting and recording procedures
Provides excellent evidence for Health and Social Care NVQs at levels 2 (HSC221) and 3 (HSC375) as it includes observation by nurse assessors.

Working With Medicines Course
Care/support workers in domiciliary settings are increasingly coming across individuals who relay on varying amounts of medication to reduce symptoms and treat illness. This course is accredited with ‘ASET’, to provide knowledge and understanding around medicines, which will empower people and support safe working practice. The course introduces learners to medicines in the care setting, gives knowledge to support them in their role, as well as guiding learners through the legislation, standards and guidance relating to working with medicines.
Learning outcomes:
- Identify different types and categories of medicines
- Describe the benefits and risks associated with different medicines
- Identify roles and responsibilities of specific workers.
- Highlight good practice around storage and disposal of medicines.
- Identify the value of risk assessments.
