What is the QCF?
As from January 2011 National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) have ceased.
The Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) is the new Government structure for all vocational learning in the UK.
Qualifications consist of units, each with a credit value. Learners will complete a required amount of credits from a selection of units in order to acheive a qualification. Qualifications are available at Levels 1-8 and are made up of:

What about the Health and Social Care sector?
Health and Social Care Diplomas replace the NVQ. Learners who already hold a relevant NVQ, at the appropriate level, will not be required to complete a Diploma at the same level.
Diploma Level 2: you need to acheive a minimum of 46 credits
Diploma Level 3: you need to acheive a minimum of 58 credits.
Diploma Level 5: you need to acheive a minimum of 80 credits.
